Assemblywoman Gina L. Sillitti (D-Port Washington), joined by Assemblymember Sam Berger (D-Queens), recently presented a proclamation to local firefighter Schuyler Gordon for his bravery and selflessness in service to others.

“I’m honored to recognize Schuyler Gordon for his devoted service at home and abroad,” said Sillitti. “For nearly two decades, Schuyler has volunteered to run toward danger to protect our community. Recently, he traveled to Israel to use his expertise to help extinguish fires from the onslaughts of Hamas’ rocket attacks. In these challenging times, people like Schuyler are more important than ever, and his courage and altruism serves as an example to us all.”

When Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, Gordon immediately started looking for opportunities to help and discovered the Emergency Volunteers Project (EVP). The not-for-profit program was established in 2007 to train and mobilize volunteers for Israel in an emergency or disaster. Within a week of applying to EVP, Gordon was on the job putting out fires and assisting Israeli first responders. He reports that he will readily deploy again if necessary, noted Sillitti.

Gordon has been a member of the Manhasset-Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department Company #3 for 19 years, formerly serving as a captain. He serves as a principal law clerk to Judge Wyatt Gibbons in the Queens County Supreme Court.
